ALUM ROCK UNION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: SENIOR ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the assigned management and/or supervisory position, perform accounting work involving assigned accounts which involve District-wide accounting functions such as accounts payable and general ledger. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Accounting Assistant classification performs diversified accounting work with independent responsibility for assigned accounts within an accounting function or department. The Senior Accounting Assistant classification involves responsibility for accounts on a District-wide basis. The work involves more account analysis greater understanding of accounting practices and overall accountability for assigned accounts. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Prepare purchase orders covering a wide range of District-level activities; match invoices with purchase orders; assure proper authorizations; process for payment in accordance with District policy; enter invoice data to the computer; verify budgets and fund balances; print checks and edit for accuracy. Verify revenues from various programs; prepare bank deposits. Input checks and cash receipts to the computer; reconcile accounts; produce accounts receivable statements. Provide data to analyze costs for programs as requested. Maintain property control data including records of purchases. transfers and disposals. Utilize computerized systems to monitor, analyze, control and report on financial data. Prepare various reports for assigned accounts or functions; prepare adjusting entries. Balance and reconcile registers, accounts and reports. Prepare budget and expenditure transfer for assigned accounts. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic principles of accounting and bookkeeping. District accounting and related procedures. Modem office practices, procedures and equipment. Record-keeping techniques. Technical aspects of field of specialty. Telephone techniques and etiquette. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in a related field and three years clerical accounting experience, or equivalent.
