CUCAMONGA SCHOOL DISTRICT

 

CLASS TITLE:  COMPUTER SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

 

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

This position is responsible for assisting the Supervisor of Technology and Information Systems in maintaining District network computer, voice and data systems and other computer-related operations within the District.  Under general direction, performs a variety of duties related to District-wide operations of computer systems and networks; provides computer support, assists as needed in daily operations of all departments and schools; perform general office, clerical and record-keeping tasks; and performs related work as required. 

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Under general direction, trains, supports, and assists District staff on the proper operation of the District computer systems.

Receives calls and other notices of problems from District employees requesting technical assistance (resolving hardware, software and network connectivity problems).

Travels to sites around the District as needed.

Performs computer and peripheral equipment installations, repairs and maintenance.

Sets up, installs, replaces and maintains computers such as PC’s, laptops, tablets, printers, and related equipment, including remote communication hardware and software.

Installs, provides technical support and training to staff for computer operations and applications; including the installation of new hardware and software.

Supports the District’s student data system, backing up records as needed and related maintenance tasks.

Orders parts, tools, software and other equipment.

Prepares and maintains required records and reports, including training documentation, equipment inventory, passwords, licenses, and work orders. 

Sets up, installs, replaces and maintains audio visual equipment and systems such as amplifiers, projectors, multi-media casting/wireless streaming devices, and speakers.

Configures and maintains networked PA/paging and bell systems.

Creating and deploying District-wide device/software images.

System administrative tasks related to Active Directory and other enterprise device management systems as authorized.

May assist with the development of training programs and materials for computer users.

Maintain assigned district computer databases (i.e., asset, license, and repair databases)

Assists with preparing and maintaining written procedures for various computer operation functions.

Participates in professional growth and development. 

Performs other related duties as required. 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

High degree of computer literacy.

Principles and practices of installation and operation of data communication systems and equipment.

Wired/Wireless Networks and TCP/IP concepts.

Windows, Chrome OS, and other current operating systems.

Current Windows Server systems, and virtual machines.

Installation, operation, repair and maintenance of computer systems.

Basic WAN concepts.

ABILITY TO:

Provide technical support and training for District staff.

Describe technical problems to field service technicians to determine appropriate action.

Read and understand technical manuals.

Develop systems, logs, or procedures to monitor critical functions.

Advise and guide District employees to use of hardware, software and related tasks.

Solve problems quickly.

Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Communicate appropriately with other personnel. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Graduation from high school supplemented by course work or training in computers or software support; and two (2) years paid experience using computers with common office computer applications with software.  Completion of recognized courses in the IT field may be taken into consideration in lieu of some experience.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment.

Seeing to read and translate documents.

Ability to sit, stand, reach and bend.

Ability to lift and move objects not exceeding fifty (50) pounds. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

12 month work year.

Classified bargaining unit member.

 

EVALUATION:

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.  The department supervisor or his/her designee will give the evaluation.

 

 

SALARY:
