COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Salary Range: $73,691 -$102,455 (2021/22 Faculty Salary Schedule); teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees determine salary placement on a schedule that is competitive with other California Community Colleges. This is a full-time, tenure-track/continuing contract position in the Art Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2022. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

Essential Functions

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This teaching position has an emphasis on Photography. Teaching responsibilities include approximately 18 hours per week of lecture/lab instruction, plus office hours for student advising. A typical semester load might include beginning and/or intermediate courses in traditional black & white darkroom, digital photography (including large format color printing), studio photography and/or photo journalism.

In addition to classroom instruction, this position may include coordination of the Applied Photo Certificate including grant writing. The ideal candidate will have strong experience teaching in both digital and traditional dark room photography environments. Candidates should also have some breadth of artistic and aesthetic interests, with a deep commitment to developing and improving the photography programs. Candidates should be aware that the curricular focus of the program is geared toward basic photography skills and knowledge to encourage students to transfer to four-year programs and/or to complete an applied photography certificate. We also serve students wanting to advance their skill level and we educate the general community. This position requires curriculum and photography program development, facilities oversite, supplies ordering, overseeing the work of the photo lab technician, and involvement in departmental and campus-wide committees.

SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including online. While this assignment is for the Santa Rosa campus, please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening classes with weekly office hours being mandatory. Instructors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field, for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or online courses), assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work, managing laboratories, and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

 

The Art Department is the fifth largest department at Santa Rosa Junior College, with seven full-time and numerous adjunct faculty teaching on two campuses. Facilities include an art history lecture room and visual resources library, studios for painting, drawing, graphic design, printmaking, photography, ceramics and sculpture. Our primary intention is to foster and develop the creative thinking, visual literacy and problem-solving skills considered necessary for students to function effectively in the future, whatever their discipline.https://art.santarosa.edu/

 

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED:

Master's degree in Photography, Fine Arts**, or Art OR Bachelor's degree in any of the these areas AND Master's degree in Art History or Humanities OR the equivalent. OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Art & Design, including Photography to qualify for Photography courses only. **"Master's in Fine Arts" as used here refers to any Master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, creative writing, or other non-plastic arts.Additional Requirements:MFA degree in Photography or MA degree and 21 graduate studio units of photography and/or at least two years recent (within last 5 years) successful college level teaching experience in photography. Photo journalism or journalism education and/or work experience required for Art 59. Instructor must submit a portfolio of personal and student work in photography. Instructor's portfolio of work must demonstrate expertise in the specific subject matter addressed in each respective course based on its current Course Outline of Record to be considered to teach that course.
