GCS 2 opened as a K-2 school in 2017, growing a grade level each year, and is located in the community of Historic South Central. Position Overview Job Status: Part-time, non-exempt Location: GCS2 Reports to: Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or their designee Compensation: $35 per hour Summary: The Part-time Substitute Teacher is a passionate educator who empowers each student to grow and meet their full potential. Working in collaboration with partner teachers, RSP teachers, arts teachers, and school administrators, the Substitute Teacher implements a rigorous instructional program in a learning environment which nurtures and develops the socio-emotional intelligence and capacity of their students while the regular teacher of record is absent. Responsibilities of the Substitute Teacher include, but are not limited to: Instruction Implement instruction around state standards that is rigorous and is correlated to school-wide and teacher-created learning outcomes Create and/or deliver lessons that are culturally responsive to the students in the classroom and account for the neuro-diversity of learners that create the conditions for each student to grow Develop daily lesson plans as needed in the absence of teacher lesson plans Accommodate, differentiate, or modify curriculum to meet student needs Assume responsibility for the progress of all students while in the substitute teacher’s care Support instructional aides providing intervention or enrichment to small groups Demonstrate resourcefulness (e.g., reaching out to partner teachers and administration as needed when problems arise, but doing their best to solve the problem first) Provide students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; find ways to involve parents/guardians in their child’s education Track critical student information; maintain and submit accurate student records, including grades, attendance, and present levels of performance in accordance with GCS procedures Demonstrate knowledge of, and support for, the Gabriella Charter Schools mission, vision, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and ethical code of behavior School Culture Model and support a community of care both inside and outside of the classroom for all GCS stakeholders, including students, families, and staff Support student growth through emphasizing an asset-based and collaborative approach to character development Implement classroom systems and procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged Enforce and model school-wide behavioral expectations Support and reinforce school procedures (e.g., monitoring student transitions and dismissal) When requested, design and deliver presentations to engage families in their child’s education (e.g., Back to School Night, Classroom Meetings, etc.) Miscellaneous Other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or school leaders that relate to instructional excellence at Gabriella Charter Schools Skills and Characteristics Possess a work ethic and personal belief system that aligns with the mission and vision of GCS Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact and forge relationships with students, parents, staff, Board, and community members Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems Deep knowledge of effective instruction and experience managing instructional personnel as well as instructional processes Demonstrated persistence to meet organizational goals Self-directed with the ability to work both autonomously and in teams Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred Education and Experience Dedication to Gabriella Charter Schools’ mission and a steadfast belief that all students deserve preparation for the college of their choice Unwavering belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels High level of professionalism Possession of a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California 30-day sub permit required; Multiple-Subject Credential, Single Subject Credential, Education Specialist Credential, Pupil Personnel Services Credential with authorization to teach English language learners preferred Proficiency in computer hardware and software use, including Google Suite, word processing, spreadsheets, multimedia presentations, email, the Internet and digital media Commitment to Diversity Gabriella Charter Schools is actively looking to build an experienced and diverse team.
