The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) is recruiting to fill a vacancy for a Campus Youth Advocate at Monarch School, located just south of downtown San Diego. Monarch School, in collaboration with SDCOE, has served San Diego for over three decades, beginning as a one-room education center and expanding into a K-12 comprehensive school designed to educate homeless youth. The Campus Youth Advocate will assist students in resolving conflicts in a positive and constructive manner, provide general supervision of students while they are outside of class, and will monitor conditions on and around the school campus for issues or disruptions to the educational environment. The CYA will also support teachers in implementing a culture of learning and student support, use conflict resolution and restorative justice practices to intervene as necessary, and prepare and maintain reports, records, and files as directed. The current position will work 215 days, 7 hours per day, and will offer the classified support benefits package. Requirements / Qualifications

This position requires possession of a high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least one year of experience (paid or volunteer) working with youth in an organized setting, ideally with at-risk youth. Candidates must also meet the ESSA Act requirements for paraprofessionals by having one of the following qualifications:

  • Completion of 48 semester units or higher at an accredited institution of higher learning;
  • Hold an associate's degree or higher;
  • Pass a basic skills test assessing knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading (or readiness), writing (or readiness), and mathematics (or readiness).

Candidates also must have, at time of hire, a valid CA driver's license, in order to travel to assigned school sites, and Basic First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
