About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary

The Information Technology Division seeks to leverage technology to simplify, enhance, and provide innovative business and educational solutions. They are committed to provide creative and collaborative ideas by implementing and incorporating technology with our customers. OCDE is seeking an ambitious and knowledgeable individual to serve as a Software Engineer to design and create engineering specifications for enterprise applications such as payroll, human resources, and time attendance. Incumbents will implement specific development methodology, document software specifications, code, test, and debug programs according to specifications, modify, expand, and update applications, and develop software prototypes. The Software Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with Business and Information Technology teams and other stakeholders to ensure architecture is aligned with business requirements. This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, and is based out of our central offices in Costa Mesa, CA. The Software Engineer position will: Analyze procedures and data to develop logical solutions to complex applications programming problems. Perform complex application analysis design and development duties including creating engineering specifications; coding, testing, and debugging programs; and modifying, expanding, and updating applications. Test, implement, and support new operating systems and hardware. Independently perform complex application development/programming analysis duties. Provide detailed design and specification documentation for all software applications.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a computer related field. • Three (3) years of recent extensive experience in the areas of design, development, testing, debugging and deployment of applications using Microsoft. NET and SQL Server. This experience should have been performed at a senior level and within the last two years. (Recent experience is defined as within the last two (2) years)
