WRITTEN TEST
Friday, December 3, 2021, at 1:30 p.m., SHARP. Education Center, Board Room, 4850 Pedley Road, Jurupa Valley, CA 92509. THE TESTING WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY TWO AND ONE HALF (2 1/2) HOURS TO COMPLETE. PLEASE BE PREPARED TO REMAIN IN THE TESTING ROOM FOR THE ENTIRE TEST PERIOD. THIS IS THE ONLY NOTICE OF THE TESTING.

Jurupa Unified School District LIBRARY TECHNICIAN DEFINITION Under direction to perform responsible clerical and para-professional library work connected with the receipt, processing and circulation of library books, periodicals, audio-visual materials and other related materials; to provide library and audio-visual information, assistance and guidance for staff members and secondary students at the District Instructional Media Center or a secondary school library; to maintain library records and materials; and to do related work as required. Individuals in this class perform a variety of tasks relating to library and audio-visual services. Work is done frequently without immediate supervision. Responsibility and judgment of the highest order is essential. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS · Assists students, teachers and administrators in their use of the library or media center. · Types book lists, cards, memos. · Checks and shelves books. · Trains and supervises student helpers. · Prepares library displays. · Makes written and oral presentations to groups and classes. · Prepares index and location devices to provide ready access to library materials. · Performs descriptive cataloging of library and other media materials. · Recommends library books and audio-visual materials for acquisition. · Maintains card catalog. · Compiles and types bibliographies. · Assists in keeping the library clean and orderly. · Studies new reference material acquired by the library. · Searches card catalogs and other indexes and bibliographies for material. · Prepares new materials for circulation. · Charges books in and out at the circulation desk. · Processes new books. · Maintains discipline in the library. · Prepares vocational and pamphlet materials for the files. · Locates books available in other libraries and obtains them on inter-library loan. · Does library research and reference work as requested. · Prepares and types correspondence, lists, reports and records. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS · Performs other related work as required. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Standard and acceptable library terminology, practices, and procedures, and the Dewey Decimal System; Standard library reference sources, books and other library materials; Alphabetizing and filing methods, record-keeping and report writing; English, grammar, spelling and vocabulary; Basic computer operation. Personnel Services (over) LIBRARY TECHNICIAN DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS (continued) Ability to: Perform accurate classifying and cataloging of books and audio-visual materials; Perform difficult clerical work with speed and accuracy; Maintain an effective and efficient library filing and records operations; Supervise the work of others; Maintain discipline in a school library; Work with a minimum of supervision. Read and comprehend handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various equipment and machines; Communicate effectively; Stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk; Sit for sustained periods of time; Climb steps and ladders; Lift and carry or otherwise move up to 40 pounds, including the ability to push and pull carts loaded with books; Concentrate on current task in spite of distractions in an active, busy environment; Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and other office equipment in a safe and efficient manner; Efficiently and effectively operate office machines and audio-visual equipment in a safe and effective manner; Maintain regular, steady attendance. Skills: Typing: 40 words per minute Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible clerical and/or library experience. Some school library experience is desirable. Education: Graduation from high school supplemented by college level courses in library and media science. Prefer either a certificate for Library Clerk or a certificate for Library Assistant.
