EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Translates or provides for the translation of school forms, meeting announcements, minutes of meetings and general information; assists teachers in translating at parent conferences; assists parents in completing school forms. Support parents and students in obtaining academic help; holds meetings with parents to instruct them in school procedures, (i.e. homework, report cards, discipline, health requirements and special programs), makes home calls in relation to school issues when appropriate; cooperates with other community agencies.
Employment Standards:
Fluent in English and another language, preferably Vietnamese or Spanish preferred. Training in bilingual education, cultural awareness or English as a Second Language. Ability to pass written and oral tests in English and another language.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Must have an understanding of other cultures; an ability to work in a positive and productive manner with youth and adults and an ability to communicate clearly in a bilingual situation; an awareness of the education system; an awareness of instruction methods for bilingual education.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Demonstrate successful experience, successful completion of appropriate education and professional training that would assure successful completion of this job. High school diploma or equivalent and some coursework in bilingual education.
