APPLE VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

CLASS TITLE:   INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor; performs technical and operational support and repair for instructional and information technology systems.  Assists staff, students, parents and community members at sites or district departments as dispatched, assigned or at help/trouble call desk.  Provides a wide range of services and works on a variety of equipment, software and other related technology accessories used in education and office environments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  Incumbents in the classification may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here. (E1-frequent duties, E2-moderate duties, E3-occasional duties.)

 

  • Operate as part of a dispatched team servicing the technology needs of classrooms, sites and departments of the District while utilizing a flexible, rotating daily schedule. (E1)
  • Drive to and from sites or district departments, performing technical support on instructional, educational and informational networked or stand-alone systems as needed or assigned. (E1)
  • Provide technology support for but not limited to: installation, diagnosis and repair of equipment, software and services used in District operations. (E1)
  • Collaborate and cooperate with other technicians on the installation, diagnosis and repair of equipment used in District operations. (E1)
  • Provide training and assist with software applications and use of equipment. (E2)
  • Create and maintain reports, logs and records on but not limited to software, licenses, backups, data, inventory, repair logs.(E2)
  • Provide support for District and site assessment programs. (E2)
  • Install cabling for but not limited to workstations, network equipment, video systems, sound systems and low-voltage systems. (E3)
  • Assist in maintaining District network security policies. (E1)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

A.         High School Diploma or equivalent required. 

B.         Associate Degree or two (2) years of college coursework in computer science or related field preferred. Or        Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates ability to perform the esential duties may be substituted for the required experience and/or education.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A certificate stating freedom from Tuberculosis.
  • A valid California Driver License.
  • Current DMV printout.
  • Insurable by District liability insurance carrier.
  • Valid First Aid Certification.
  • Valid CPR Certification preferred.
  • Microsoft Certified Professional. Comp TIA IT Fundamentals, and/or Apple Certified Mac Technician certifications preferred.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification preferred.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Assistive technologies and sound systems.
  • File and print services, computers, peripherals, local area networks (wired and wireless), the internet (www), server access, audio and video systems and projectors.
  • Interactive technologies, instructional and workgroup software, networking protocols.
  • Problem-solving techniques and analytical diagnosis.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • The operation of electronic equipment for trouble shooting, testing, measuring and other computer diagnostic procedures.
  • Workstation and Computer Operating Systems.
  • Written materials on all aspects of computer utilization, installation, and maintenance.

 

ABILITY TO:

  • Advise users and instruct on how to use work stations operating on LAN, WAN, and the Internet.
  • Develop systems, logs, or procedures to monitor critical functions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Instruct onsite staff on computer, communications and networking applications.
  • Demonstrate a systemic and disciplined approach to problem solving.
  • Adhere to schedules and timelines.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.
  • Research and understand technical manuals.
  • Identify and diagnose software or hardware malfunctions in a variety of operating system platforms.
  • Comply with safety regulations.

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Seeing and hearing to perform essential duties.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Bending, crawling or climbing to perform installation and repair work.
  • Operating a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
  • Lift, move, push or pull up to 50 pounds. 

 

ENVIRONMENT:

  • School or District office environment.
  • Subject to demanding time lines and constant interruptions.
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

 

 

HAZARDS:

  • Extended viewing of computer monitor.
  • Sitting for an extended period of time.
  • Subject to angry and disgruntled people.
