Title: Custodian IV
Reports To: High School Site Administrator or Director of Maintenance
Salary: Range 49
Classification: Classified
FLSA: Non-Exempt (hourly)
Work Year: 12 Months

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the High School Site Administrator, for a Custodian IV assigned to a comprehensive High School, or the Director of Maintenance, for a Custodian IV centrally assigned, performs the necessary duties and functions to maintain district cleanliness standards for all assigned site buildings, facilities, grounds, and associated areas, including the direction and coordination of duties for the site’s custodial staff. Attends training and receives technical assistance from the Custodial and Grounds Supervisor.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
• Organizes, directs, monitors, and provides training for the work of Custodians I, II, Grounds Keeper and student help.
• Develops work schedules; identifies and prioritizes specific tasks to be accomplished.
• Performs, plans and directs cleaning, gardening, and minor maintenance work at an assigned site.
• Makes minor repairs and reports or performs needed major repairs.
• Open and/or close the buildings, including lights, heating, air conditioning, security, and raising and lowering flag.
• Provides leadership and works with the custodial staff in carrying out custodial and maintenance tasks.
• Directs and assists in moving, arranging and setting up furniture and equipment for special events, meetings, and athletic events.
• Orders and maintains inventory of appropriate supplies and equipment.
• Follows general safety and hazardous materials procedures.
• Makes routine security checks reporting vandalism and arranging for or performing needed repairs.
• Water and maintain the lawns, landscaping and school grounds as necessary.
• Clean swimming pool and maintain water chemistry and related equipment as necessary.
• Does related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and Application of: General methods of maintenance and cleaning procedures, use of cleaning materials and yard care, carpentry, pool maintenance, electrical and plumbing skills required for routine maintenance; danger of hazardous materials; the appropriate action to prevent injury to self and others.
Ability to:
• Use equipment common to the custodial, grounds keeping and maintenance function;
• Work independently to complete tasks;
• Develop and follow schedules;
• Understand, implement, and give oral and written directions in English;
• Organize, schedule, monitor and direct the work of others;
• Communicate effectively and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
• Follow general safety and hazardous materials procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Training in directing the work of others and additional training in related fields.
Experience: At least three (3) years of experience in performing custodial, grounds keeping and maintenance functions, preferably in a school setting, and experience in directing the work of others.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
