Job Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer, install, maintain and support Local Area Networks (LANs) technologies and resources, educational technologies, communications hardware including wide area network functionality and a variety of software applications; assist with the coordination of the District's computer information functions and provide technical assistance to District personnel.

Under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer, install, maintain and support Local Area Networks (LANs) technologies and resources, educational technologies, communications hardware including wide area network functionality and a variety of software applications; assist with the coordination of the District's computer information and provide technical assistance to District personnel. 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year institution in information technology, computer programming, computer science, or other technology-related field.
  • Certifications/Experience may be substituted for education.
  • Minimum of three years of network system support experience 

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: Network operating systems and protocols including Cisco Switching and Routing, Network Design and Troubleshooting; network traffic analysis methodology and systems including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP); Packet Sniffing, Cisco operating system commands and configurations; network operating systems including Windows and Linux; Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), and other electronic mail systems; Active Directory and other directory services models including incorporation of LDAP applications and resources; technical operation of a variety of technology, peripheral equipment, communications hardware and a wide variety of software applications; training principles and techniques; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; technical aspects of field of specialty; proper lifting techniques.

Ability to: maximize network performance by monitoring network systems and making appropriate modifications; troubleshoot network problems and outages; schedule and perform system upgrades; collaborate with staff on network planning and system implementations; monitor and diagnose network issues at all levels including those from outside the enterprise; configure and deploy network switches, routers, and other equipment; maintain, manage, and extend Active Directory user and computer environment. Install, maintain and support microcomputer, LANs, educational technologies, communications hardware and a variety of software applications; assist with the coordination of the District's computer information function and provide technical assistance to District personnel; read, understand and apply technical and complex documents; learn and apply new concepts in computer systems; update and document procedures; work with users at various levels of expertise; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; understand and follow oral and written directions; plan and organize work; prioritize and schedule work; meet schedules and time lines; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; observe legal and defensive driving practices.

 

Licenses and other requirements

  • Possession of a California Driver’s License and automobile insurance coverage or must have other reliable transportation to travel during course of employment
