DCP's success with first-generation college students is at the forefront of a national movement for college access and educational equity. The first charter high school in Silicon Valley, Downtown College Prep (DCP) was founded in San Jose in 2000 with the belief that all students, regardless of background and prior academic achievement, can and should be prepared for college success.

Through our singular commitment to college success, we ensure our largely low income Latino students and families are fully supported in the pursuit of a college  degree.

 SUMMARY:

The long-term substitute is responsible for providing classroom coverage for a teacher who is absent for an extended period of time. The long-term substitute works the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during his/her absence. The long-term substitute teacher is responsible for the full schedule of the classroom teacher. This includes, but is not limited to implementing the lesson plan created for the sub, yard duty supervision and other daily duties performed by the classroom teacher. The long-term substitute teacher is to:

  • Develop lessons and units of study 
  •  Engage in ongoing assessment of student progress using a variety of different means. This will include maintaining accurate records and utilizing assessment data to tailor instruction to individual student needs to increase student performance.
  • Participate in professional development activities and staff meetings.
  • Maintain frequent communication with students, students’ families, colleagues, and other school stakeholders.
  • Implement the daily instructional lesson plans of the classroom teacher in an effective manner.
  • Maintain a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
  • Establish effective rapport with pupils while maintaining proper classroom management.
  • Work effectively with the building administrator and other teachers to minimize any potential transitional problems from the teacher to substitute and substitute to teacher.
  • Record keeping such as grades and attendance
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid California Teaching Credential (Single Subject, Multiple Subject or Emergency 30-Day Substitute) OR have a Bachelor's degree AND are willing to take the CBEST OR have a Bachelor's degree and you passed the SAT Math with a score of 550 or higher and English with a score of 500 or higher.

  • CPR/First Aid certification would be a plus
