Job Summary

The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting to fill a vacancy for a Project Specialist, Foster Youth and Homeless Education Services (FYHES) in the Homeless Education Services Department. The San Diego County Office of Education provides support and resources to the 42 school districts in the county, JCCS and county-wide charter schools to implement the McKinney-Vento Act by providing technical assistance and training to the district homeless liaisons and other staff who are involved in working with homeless children and youth. The current vacancy primarily support projects specific to students experiencing homelessness, and is grant-funded through June 30, 2024. Under general direction, the Project Specialist, Foster Youth and Homeless Education, plans, coordinates and promotes the development and implementation of the Foster Youth Services Program and/or McKinney Vento Homeless Education Services Program; performs top-level staff assignments and professional-level activities in support of the Foster Youth Services and/or Homeless Education Services.

Requirements / Qualifications

The Project Specialist, FYHES position requires a bachelor's degree in social work, education, psychology, or closely related field, and three (3) years’ experience in foster and/or homeless education serving vulnerable youth. A master's degree in social work, education, psychology, or closely related field is preferred. This position requires knowledge of federal and state regulations and laws affecting the education of foster children and those who are experiencing homelessness including children with special needs, and the interaction between substitute caregivers, community-based organizations, placing agencies and educational agencies and advocacy groups.
