Job Description and Duties

 

Under the direct supervision of the Principal or Assistant Principal, the substitute teacher will provide education services according to federal and state statutes and regulations, the current California model curriculum standards and state frameworks, the Division of Juvenile Justice, Education Services Branch and institution policies and procedures, and the local Education Site Plan. It is the responsibility of the teacher to maintain valid teaching credentials; to provide a safe learning and working environment; to provide instruction that encourages a crime-free lifestyle and supports the protection of society; to exercise cultural sensitivity in working with a diverse population; to uphold professional ethics in conduct, appearance and relationships; and to maintain performance standards for professional practice.

Please be advised, the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) has been slated for closure in June of 2023. However, no specific facility closure dates have been announced. We encourage all candidates interested in pursuing employment with DJJ to continue to apply for our vacancies as the day to day operations of providing rehabilitative services to California’s youth remain. Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

**The Substitute Academic Teacher is not guaranteed to work 1500 hours - the position is On-Call & Temporary**

This classification is non testing and require: EMERGENCY 30-DAY SUBSTITUTE TEACHING PERMIT. You will be required to provide a copy of your permit prior to being hired.

Substitute Teacher applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) to apply for this position. Possession of any authorized academic or services credential approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for services

within California, such as, but not limited to:


1. A Single Subject Credential; or

2. A Multiple Subject Credential; or

3. A Standard Elementary Credential; or

4. A General Elementary or General Secondary Credential; or

5. An Emergency Credential.

Applicants who do not meet the above requirements must possess a bachelor's degree, have passed the CBEST examination, and have proof of application for at least an Emergency Credential. After issuance, the credential must be maintained by completion of any Commission on Teacher Credentialing requirements.
