A Los Angeles Leadership Academy teacher responsibilities include, but are not limited to: In the role of Teacher Collaborates with other teachers during department, grade level or core meetings Uses appropriate theories, methods, and strategies to teach state standards and skills that are aligned with state standards Manages classroom in terms of discipline Assesses students to determine appropriate curriculum and instruction and to determine grades Maintains and submits grades in a timely manner Plans/ Attends student conferences Coordinates with Principal regarding teaching strategies Creates a semester/ year long syllabus and works collaboratively on students academic projects Provides students with basic computer instruction and encourages basic computer skills Maintains a positive and cooperative learning environment in the classroom Creates daily lesson plans Maintains classroom attendance records Organizes classroom appropriately for the subject being taught Provides students with the additional academic support as needed, including before or after school Communicates on a regular basis with students and parents regarding the students progress Provides lesson plans when absent- creates emergency lesson plans on file in the office Uses a variety of engaging, relevant teaching strategies Promotes positive learning environment in all aspects of the instructional program Promotes and exemplifies the California Standards for the Teaching Profession In the role of Advisor Supports student college planning and academic development Refers problems with students to the advisor and serves as advisor to other students Models positive behavior and sets good examples for the students Implements Behavior Plan in a consistent manner Enforces both school-wide and classroom rules consistently Provides support for the weekly All School Meetings As a Staff member in the school Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings Implements school-wide action plan to address school wide-goals Participates in Professional Development opportunities including but not limited to differentiated instruction and promotion of good instructional practices, which may include summer planning Participates in conferences/ retreats, etc. Assists with WASC accreditation and Charter Renewal Supervises students during lunch Is responsive to teacher/ administrative requests in a timely fashion Participates in committees to further school goals Participates in school-wide activities during school hours Works on continuing credentialing and/ or professional educational programs Notifies office in a timely manner in case of absence Maintains communication with parents through notes, phone calls, and meetings Is on time for all work/ all school activities as specified in the Employment Contract Completes all paperwork on time Helps to improve school culture by working in committees to address school culture issues and by working to improve LA Leadership’s school culture in each individual classroom Reporting: The Teacher reports to the Principal Qualifications: Teachers must possess and maintain appropriate state and NCLB- compliant teaching credentials
