The teacher of the visually impaired has the following roles and responsibilities:
* Has primary responsibility for specialized instruction and services required to meet the unique educational needs of the visually impaired student.
* Possesses the skills and abilities necessary to provide and coordinate this instruction.
* Assist the site administrator and teachers in making environmental adjustments for the student in the school situation and in the improvement of practices and procedures.
* Has responsibility for selecting and obtaining large type, recorded, or Braille testbooks, supplementary materials, educational aids, and equipment needed by the visually impaired student and the classroom teacher to ensue the student's maximum participation in all classroom activities.
* Provides specialized instruction to the student with a visual impairment, school personnel, and parents in the use of necessary educational aids and equipment.
* Provides instruction to the student with a visual impairment in the development and maintenance of skills related to the visual impairment designed to meet students' unique educational needs as indicated in the IEP,IFSP, or the ITP.
* Conducts the functional low vision assessment in coordination with the orientation and mobility specialist.
* Participates in IFSP/IEP/ITP meetings for students with visual impairments.
* Maintains ongoing contact with parents to assist them in the development of a realistic understanding of the child's abilities, progress, and future goals.
* Assists in the coordination of other personnel, such as transcribers, readers, counselors, orientation and mobility specialists, carreer/vocational education staff, and rehabilitation counselors.

Requirements / Qualifications
MATERIALS: This position requires a credential which authorizes services to students who are visually impaired. The candidate must have an English Language Learner Authorization/CLAD. A Valid California Driver License is also required. It is recommended you attach a letter of interest, letters of recommendation and, if you are a current teacher, a performance evaluation. This District will consider no more than 100 applicants. We will close the position when we fill an adequate number of applications have been received.
