Under the direction of the Director-Student Services, assist in resolving school attendance and truancy problems by serving as a liaison between the Office of Student Attendance and Welfare, schools and assist District efforts to improve student attendance and residency issues; coordinate the collection of information and preparation of required documents related to students recommended for the School Attendance Review Team (SART) and School Attendance Review Board (SARB) process; perform translation duties between English to a second language as needed.

CLASS TITLE: SCHOOL COMMUNITY LIAISON
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, promote and coordinate the delivery of services to identified students and parents through involvement in various school programs and other activities; perform liaison duties between schools and parents; refer families to local agencies or school services as appropriate; locate and identify students and families in accordance with established guidelines; prepare and maintain related files, records and reports.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Promote and coordinate the delivery of services to identified students and parents through involvement in various school programs and other activities; prepare and maintain a variety of files, records and reports related to assigned functions.
Provide information and materials to parents to assist them in utilizing community services and resources; assist parents with filling out forms and documents; refer families to local agencies or school services as appropriate; locate and identify students and families in accordance with established guidelines.
Perform liaison duties between school, community resources and agencies and parents; communicate with parents regarding student performance including attendance, behavior, academic achievement, health and medical problems; participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings as assigned.
Administer language assessment tests in a designated second language as assigned by the position; correct and score tests; notify parents of test results; determine student level of proficiency for placement.
Facilitate family participation in various activities; identify and encourage recruitment of parent volunteers; explain and assist in determining program eligibility; arrange parent activities including recruitment, training, and scheduling.
Unite outside organizations, schools and families; inform community agencies of available school services; resolve issues or concerns as needed; contact community businesses to obtain donations and plan activities.
Translate written materials from English to a second language as assigned by the position; provide oral translation for telephone calls, conferences and other meetings as assigned.
Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, answering telephones, filing, duplicating materials and composing correspondence.
Schedule and make home visits to acquire information and discuss school-related problems such as absenteeism, behavior problems and other matters; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
Represent the District at a variety of school and community meetings; attend workshops and conferences as assigned.
Participate in establishing working relationships with social service and family service organizations.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software.
OTHER DUTIES:
Provide assistance to front office school site staff as directed.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year of experience working in an instructional or community service program or related field.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver’s license and proof of current California auto liability insurance at time of appointment, and throughout employment in this classification.
Personal automobile for job-related travel.
Incumbents in this classification are required to speak, read and write in a designated second language.
