EL RANCHO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

 LIBRARY MEDIA TECHNICIAN

DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the principal, assistant principal, or librarian, to perform responsible clerical and para-professional library work.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Inspects incoming shipments of library material for conformance with orders; process material for circulation; assist principal, assistant principal, or librarian in training new employees, train and supervise students, assist and supervise in all circulation functions, assist staff and students in the location and use of library materials (both print and electronic sources); maintain maintenance and shelving of materials; catalog library materials; load software and maintain software upgrades; maintain printers on network; set up of CD-ROM programs; assists students with basic commands for computer applications and CD; troubleshoot minor network and printer problems; facilitate internet access for students and staff; assist in supervision of students before and after school, during lunch and class periods, print, distribute, generate bills, overdue/fine notices, collect and record fines, troubleshoot problems, and at the high school assume responsibility for daily library operation when librarian is not present.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Dewey Decimal Systems of classification, media software, hardware and computer capabilities and peripherals; modern office and library clerical procedures, proficiency in use of Macintosh and PC computer applications.

Ability to:

Perform responsible library work involving independent judgment; understand and follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relations with students and staff; maintain proper library environment; maintain a positive attitude, focus and flexibility while performing multiple library assignments; react in a positive manner to unexpected demands and needs of staff and students.

Experience

At least one year of library/media center experience, including work with automated library system; experience in utilizing microcomputers in an instructional setting.

Education:

Have completed, be enrolled in or enroll in college level courses in library services and technology; computer technology, and other related courses.

 

Desirable qualifications:

Ability to coordinate Accelerated Reader Program.

Ability to coordinate STAR computerized reading assessment program.
