JOB SPECIFICATION

 

REGISTRATION CENTER TECHNICIAN  

 

THE POSITION

Under general supervision of the Director of Special Programs, performs complex technical tasks in the student registration process; provides guidance information and assistance to parents and students; maintains specific student records and files pertaining to the registration process; provides database training for staff; and performs related work as required.

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:            Director of Special Programs 

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class receive general supervision from the Director of Special Programs or designee within a framework of standard policies and procedures.  Technicians provide support and assistance to parents, students, teachers and administrators.  They establish, maintain and update student records and files; compile and process a variety of student data and statistical information for input into a computerized recordkeeping system; and assist staff in the use of the District Student Information System. 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:

  • Assists in administering and scoring aptitude/interest inventories and placement tests for assigned students.
  • Assists parents and students in school registration activities.
  • Enters test scores and student data into a computer terminal.
  • Compiles a variety of data and statistical information and inputs such information into the computer.
  • Alphabetizes and files student records and confidential materials.
  • Prepares various memos and letters as directed.
  • Retrieves student data and information from the computer as requested according to State and District policies and regulations.
  • Processes registration paperwork and cum requests.
  • Maintains student data records for state reporting requirements.
  • Instructs other personnel in the use of the student information system, concepts, and operations.
  • Participates in District inservice programs.
  • Develops and documents procedures related to the SIS and other applications.
  • Provides training and technical support for the SIS and other applications.
  • Works with users and software vendors to troubleshoot database and application problems.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE

Knowledge of:

  • State college and university requirements for entrance.
  • Local District and state graduation requirements.
  • District curricular offerings.
  • Basic office routines and procedures.
  • Computerized recordkeeping methods and techniques.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and penmanship.
  • Principles of public relations and human development.

 

Ability to:

  • Perform a variety of clerical work involving use of independent judgment requiring accuracy and speed.
  • Perform routine clerical work and prepare clear, concise reports.
  • Read, understand and utilize technical, procedural and instructional material.
  • Learn specific rules and procedures used in a counseling setting.
  • Operate standard office machines including computer and computer terminal.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
