BASIC FUNCTION:
Plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of custodial and grounds maintenance services at an assigned high school site; maintain the physical school facilities in a clean and safe condition.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of custodial and grounds maintenance services at an assigned high school site; plan, schedule and supervise the cleaning, maintenance and repair work on campus; conduct regular inspections of school plant for custodial, maintenance and repair needs. E
Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; plan, schedule, assign and supervise cleaning, grounds maintenance and repair work; assist in the selection and training of members of the custodial staff; monitor time records of custodial employees to assure compliance with schedule and budgetary requirements. E
Maintain inventory and requisition supplies, tools and equipment; submit orders to appropriate personnel for signature. E
Supervise on-campus grounds maintenance and athletic field preparation. E
Coordinate and maintain activities calendar for assemblies, rallies and outside organization functions held on campus. E
Establish and supervise summer cleaning programs and schedules; assure proper shift coverage and make adjustments as necessary. E
Inspect fire extinguishers on a regularly scheduled basis. E
Conduct meetings and training sessions for on-site custodial and grounds staff as necessary.
Check heating and electrical equipment for proper operation.
Make minor repairs as needed.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Methods, materials and equipment used in custodial, grounds and general maintenance work.
Requirements of maintaining buildings and facilities in good repair. 
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Cleaning equipment, tools, materials and supplies used in custodial work. 
Methods, equipment and materials used in auditorium and specialty program area maintenance work. 
Principles and practices of training and providing work direction. 
Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies. 
Oral and written communication skills.
Record-keeping techniques. 
Operation and use of hand and power tools and equipment. 
ABILITY TO:
Plan, organize, coordinate and supervise the custodial and general maintenance activities of assigned plant.
Estimate and order custodial supplies.
Assist skilled personnel in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities. 
Inspect facilities for maintenance and repair needs and fire, safety and health hazards. 
Train and provide work direction to others. 
Prioritize and schedule work.
Estimate materials and labor costs.
Work independently with little direction. 
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
Maintain detailed records and prepare reports. 
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 
Perform heavy physical labor. 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to:  graduation from high school and five years increasingly responsible experience in custodial work including at least two years experience in a lead capacity.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.

Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.
Incumbents in this position may be required to respond to emergency calls.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and moving heavy furniture and equipment.
Climbing stairs and ramps.
Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment.
Bending at the waist; kneeling or crouching.
Reaching overhead and horizontally.
HAZARDS:
Contact with cleaning agents and chemicals.

  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS / CERTIFICATES: The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination. Cost of the exam will be borne by the District. A pre-employment drug screening will also be administered. Valid California driver's license If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B. tested and fingerprinted. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview.
