Position Title Instructional Assistant - Classroom II. Position Description Under general supervision, assists, tutors, and trains students individually or in groups following a prescribed course of study as directed by instructional staff; to assist the teacher in routine clerical duties; and to do related work as may be required. Positions in this class are established principally to relieve teachers of certain instructional tasks and routine details, which are non-instructional in nature. Incumbents perform their tasks with initiative and independent judgment within a limited number of standardized procedures. In addition to, or in lieu of, classroom assignments, incumbents may be assigned to learning handicapped classes, library, pre-school programs, learning resource or instructional materials center to handle routine details of program implementation. The duties below are representative of the collective duties of positions in this class; however, no one position will normally perform all of these duties. This position serves as an aid to teachers, but the full responsibility for appropriate instruction, curriculum materials, and evaluation remain with the teacher. III. Example of Duties/Responsibilities A. Provides individual and small group instruction under teacher supervision-E B. Reinforces or follows-up on the teacher’s lessons by reading or telling stories, listening to children read, assisting children with review of various subject matter, playing games with children, demonstrating arts and crafts projects, assisting children in selecting books, and resource materials and assisting children in using audio-visual equipment-E C. Performs a variety of routine clerical and record keeping activities such as taking roll, collecting monies, filling out forms and applications, and correcting papers D. Assists teacher in supervising playground activities and in maintaining order-E E. Assist in the evaluation of the instruction and the students’ progress and problems F. May follow teacher’s lesson plans and assist teacher in preparation of plans or develop own plans based on teacher’s direction and explanation of the student’s needs G. Helps maintain a supportive learning environment-E H. May check out, order, process and maintain books and various reference materials in library or resource room-E I. Assists in developing and preparing teaching aids-E J. May assist in proctoring and scoring tests, charting student progress, keeping records reflecting attendance and grades K. Typing and duplicating materials L. Straightens or organizes classroom or learning facility M. May accompany students on field trips N. Attends in-service training-E O. Respects confidential nature of pupil records and school reports-E (E) - Essential IV. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: •General needs and behavior of children •Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation •Operation of standard office equipment •Basic psychology in the growth and development of children Ability to: •Read and comprehend reading materials proficiently •Understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures and policies •Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, teachers and administrators •Communicate effectively, using correct pronunciation and grammar •Make standard arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately •Keep records, perform clerical tasks of a routine nature •Typing may be a requirement for some assignments Education and Experience •Graduation from High School or equivalent •Individuals possessing the knowledge and abilities listed above are considered to possess the necessary experience. Certificate of Completion or transcripts showing high school graduation date or transcripts showing an awarded date for higher education). 3. One current Letter of Recommendation (hand signed and dated within the last 12 months). No electronic signatures are accepted. Testing is REQUIRED for this position unless proof of a passing Instructional Assistant test score with MVUSD or TRANSCRIPTS showing you were awarded an AA, BA or MA degree are uploaded to your application by the posting deadline date (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
