ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES AND THE FRESHMAN SUPPORT SPECIALIST POSITIONS: The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public independent study charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. We use Stride as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Newrow platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to log into the online school daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Assist pupils in choosing courses of study best suited to their goals, aptitudes and interests • Review each student’s transcripts to ensure proper placement in classes • Review each student’s educational progress and career plans, with students individually or in small groups in person, on phone and/ or over internet • Organize and collaborate with guidance counselors and hold monthly 4-year plan workshops to support parents and /or students • Work with 9th graders to discuss and create four year plan (Grad Plan) along with postsecondary goals • Maintain grad plan to ensure accuracy • Organize and collaborate with Guidance Counselors to include weekly update email to parents and /or student • Collaborate with teachers • Disseminate needed student information to GE teachers • Coordinate with guidance team to provide monthly homeroom takeovers • Other duties as assigned

HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION: Full time Freshman Support Specialists work Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these hours. Full Time Freshman Support Specialist: BA- $47,858-$51,538 annual salary based on years of experience MA- $49,414-$53,213 annual salary based on years of experience We do participate in CalSTRS. Please contact your CalSTRS counselor about how employment with any of the California Virtual Academies may affect your personal STRS account. Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. Education/Experience: • Strong organizational skills • Detail oriented • Able to balance and complete multiple projects • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook • Self-directed but comfortable working as part of a team • Proficient with the school’s Graduation Requirements • Teaching credential and/or Pupil Personnel Service Credential REQUIRED CREDENTIAL/CERTIFICATION: (All applicants MUST have the following at the time of applying) • Permanent California Residence (Must currently reside in 1 of the 43 CA counties we service/hire in) • Valid/current Preliminary/Clear/Life Pupil Personnel Services Credential and/or Teaching Credential with a California English Learner Authorization- Issued by CTC.
