Job Summary

Job Summary

The job of an Elementary School Counselor is to provide, as part of the counseling team, in a bilingual/multicultural setting, a comprehensive guidance and counseling program to students. Specifically the school counselor provides individual services to their student caseload, consults with teachers, parents and other educational staff. In accordance with the American School Counselor Association guidelines 80% of their time is spent in direct service distributed across a range of service components that include but are not limited to: school-wide educative and preventive interventions, small group and targeted individual interventions, crisis response, consultation with parents, teachers and other educators, advocacy within schools and with community partners, professional development and training of school staff in areas of concern to the school system. Additionally, an Elementary School Counselor supports various elementary educational programs and teaches the guidance curriculum to support student’s educational, career, personal and social development.
