Job Summary:
The position of Information Technology Technician was established for the purpose/s of performing installation, troubleshooting, general maintenance, upgrade, and repair, of technology-related hardware and software supporting classrooms and offices throughout the district. This includes, but is not limited to, computers, computer software, and peripheral computer equipment such as keyboards, mice, displays, sound devices, printers, communication devices, cameras, uninterruptible power supplies, and in-room networking equipment. This position provides technical support to end-users which includes the ability to operate a variety of technology-related devices, performing diagnostics to investigate and troubleshoot user problems, and the instruction of essential operations. This position will be able to produce and manage documentation related to these activities which includes operation and installation instructions, inventories, and reports to these activities. The use of computer management and repair tools, such as diagnostic hardware or software, remote management of computers, and the ability to provide basic network troubleshooting are essential to the performance of the duties of this position.
Essential Job Functions:
- Installs, Configures, and Upgrades, technology-related, computers, and computer-related hardware, software, and peripherals, for the effective operation of equipment.
- Investigates, Troubleshoots, and Repairs the malfunction of hardware and software applications to maintain computer operations in a networked environment.
- Performs and Coordinates the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of technology-related equipment and software, with site staff and/or outside vendors to repair or provide technical expertise at school sites and offices.
- Performs data migration and handling, for the purpose of preserving computer data and system settings during upgrades.
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written reference an /or conveying information.
- Responds to customer requests for the purpose of providing information and technical support.
Other Job Functions:
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Attends meetings as needed for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
- Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing diagnostic and application software; adhering to safety practices; and maintaining accurate records.
- Knowledge is required to perform basic math, read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: electronics analysis; multi platform operating systems and personal computers; educational technology, security and peripheral equipment; copyright and licensing laws; and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Ability to gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; establishing effective working relationships; displaying mechanical aptitude; communicating with technologically diverse groups; being attentive to detail; and working under time constraints.
- Responsibility: Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job’s functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
- Physical Requirements: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands; significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness and in a clean atmosphere.
- Education and Training Required: Associates degree in Computer Science or related field and one (1) year experience in the repair of computers; OR, three (3) years of experience in computer repair or related field.
- Licenses, Certifications and Testing Required:
- Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.
- Tuberculosis clearance.
- Structured job related testing.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid California Drivers license.
- Evidence of Insurability.
