About the Employer

Learning by Design (LbD) Charter School is a new progressive elementary charter school that opened its doors in South Los Angeles in August of 2018 with grades TK-5th. LbD’s mission is to promote educational equity through three innovative practices; Personalized Learning, Maker-Centered Learning, and Democratic Style Learning. During Personalized Learning, students work collaboratively with teachers, learning mentors, and parents to customize a curriculum that addresses their personal needs using resources such as one-on-one conferencing with the teachers, on-line curriculum, small group instruction, as well as whole group instruction. Maker-Centered Learning is centered on standards-based projects that require students to solve real world problems using technology and raw materials. As Democratic Learners, students are empowered and given the tools to develop self-advocacy. Learning by Design is currently looking to add 3 more teachers to the team. These individuals should be innovative, collaborative, flexible, possess an entrepreneurial spirit, and have a fun-loving attitude. If you are interested in joining a great organization and using your skills and experience to do great things for the students of South Los Angeles, please apply by submitting a resume to charris@learningbydesignschools.org To learn more about Learning by Design Charter School visit www.learningbydesignschools.org.

Job Summary

Do you believe ALL children deserve access to a quality education? If so, we want you on our team. Learning by Design (LbD) is a young (4 years) charter school developed by a team of 2 moms/educators who saw the disparities in public education and wanted to do something about it. So, they designed a school based on research and best practices for students/families in South Los Angeles. LbD focuses on Mastery-based Learning, Project-based Learning, and Innovation within a Democratic Learning environment. LbDs mission is to push students beyond the standards while also developing their critical thinking, problem solving, advocacy, empathy and innovation skills in order for them to be strong, confident, competent, well-rounded, and thoroughly prepared for the future. We are preparing our students to think outside the box and find ways to create a better world for themselves and their community. Using instructional practices such as Readers/Writers Workshop, CGI, PBL, Place-based Learning, and Maker Education which are all inherently student-centered and collaborative, students are encouraged to take agency of their learning within our progressive and authentic learning environment. So, if you desire to impact a child's learning experience and change the trajectory of their life, we need you on our team! We are currently looking to add a 3 new teacher assistants to the team for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.
