Odyssey Charter is located in Altadena, CA and serves 460 students in grades Kindergarten to 8th grade; the OCS- South location is also in Altadena, CA and serves 360 students in TK-8th grade
Requirements / Qualifications
. Forming the foundation of our progressive teaching philosophy is that children learn best by doing. Therefore, we strive to provide a “hands-on” learning environment to all our students. The Long-Term Substitute reports to the Principal. We are looking for 1 Long-Term substitute in a Kindergarten classroom at our OCS-South TK-6th grade location in Pasadena. The position is anticipated to start as soon as possible. Candidates will be paid $145 per day while training with the current classroom teacher and $225 per day when they teach in the classroom independently. The Substitute Teacher plans, implements, monitors, and instructs in a learning environment which facilitates students’ academic and socio-emotional growth and development. Substitute Teachers will implement lessons developed by the Lead Teachers, which meet California State Standards, and honor each child’s learning style and preference and relies on a constructivist approach to learning.

Utilize California State Standards to develop and/or implement classroom curriculum
Assess and monitor student achievement and growth utilizing school assessment tools
Modify teaching practices as needed per classroom assessments and individual child needs
Meet with parents and students to construct Individualized learning Plans
Ensure all student needs are being met and if needed meet with the Inclusion Specialist and/or Executive Director for additional support
Engage in meaningful professional development activities
Effectively communicate with parents on an ongoing basis via classroom newsletters, e-mails, or teacher website and blog
Review, understand and commit to OCS policies, procedures and charter
Plan and participate in OCS Community Events
Meets professional obligations though efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating activities
Works with colleagues to plan and coordinate work
Participates in the development of changes to curriculum where necessary
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Current California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
Teaching experience in a constructivist, multiage learning environment serving diverse student populations with a variety of learning styles and abilities
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
Ability to use discretion and good judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive information
Team player!
Knowledgeable of federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations
Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid
