JOB SUMMARY: To teach students in grades 9-12 and to assist in other school programs, activities and responsibilities assigned by the Superintendent/Principal ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops, enhances and updates course description, syllabi, and content standards in accordance with State framework and content standards, and District policies. • Develops and teaches skills and knowledge in the assigned areas utilizing the course syllabi adopted by the Board of Trustees. To allow for and to encourage flexibility, teachers may develop individualized performance goals and objectives that are correlated and aligned with the adopted course syllabi. • Develops and implements daily written lesson plans that are correlated and aligned to the District-approved course syllabi, and follow the District-approved lesson plan format. • Provides for individualized and/or grouped instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes and cultural backgrounds. Assigns lessons; corrects homework. • Encourages students to develop attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships and make value judgments pertinent to the subject area. • Instruct students in communication skills and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers. • Provides a learning environment in which emphasis is placed upon the development of a positive self-concept. • Supervises each class period and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. • Evaluates student performance according to the student's progress in relation to clearly stated goals and objectives. • Provides student grades and progress reports in accordance with the adopted school grading policy. • Assists in the administration of the District's standardized testing program. • Maintains professional competence through In-service activities provided by the District and in self-selected professional growth activities. • Attends and participates in all appropriate staff meetings, department meetings within the school of assignment and/or on a District level. • Exhibits professional cooperation with school personnel as shown through following proper channels of communications, filing of reports, willingness to participate on committees, and participation in curriculum and other departmental programs. • Obtains written administrative approval when arranging for visitors or planning and conducting field trips. • Identifies and assesses student learning needs and problems, and takes appropriate action to inform parents and/or the appropriate school personnel of those needs and problems. • Assists in the selection of curriculum materials, instructional aid supplies and maintains required inventory records, in accordance with Board policies regarding use of supplemental instructional aids. • Responds to parents and academic advisor and superintendent/principal concerning the individual student's progress. • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday, assists in the enforcement of school’s rules and reports infractions of the established school's rules to the appropriate authority. • Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required. • Maintains a classroom environment that takes into account sound health and safety practices. • Shares in the sponsorship of student activities such as school clubs, organizations, and commencement exercises. • Supports and attends school-related events when requested by the Superintendent/Principal. • Implements regulations and establishes procedures when applicable to assure that school-owned materials, equipment and facilities are properly used and cared for by students and staff. • Assumes other adjunct duties beyond the normal school day as assigned on an equitable basis by the site administrator after consultation with the certificated staff member concerned. • Follows all school and District policies not specifically listed above. • Sets a regular time when available for parent conferences or telephone responses. DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Must hold or in process of obtaining a valid California credential that authorizes service in the position for which applying.  CLAD/BCLAD or equivalent required.  Be NCLB compliant  Experience with AVID, coaching, extracurricular student activities, GATE and differentiated instructional techniques are desirable. Holder of a valid California credential authorizing the services to be performed. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in an office/school environment with occasional temperature variations and local travel to District facilities and related locations; frequent to constant interruptions; fast-paced environment; constant handling, reaching, talking, and hearing; employee must remain alert at all times; frequent to constant exposure to moderate to loud noise; frequent use of fine motor coordination and visual acuity; occasional lifting of 30 pounds and use of hand an foot controls; occasional stooping, kneeling, minor climbing (e.g., stairs to facilities, step stools for shelves and files) and balancing, and crouching; occasional exposure to chemicals, such as toner.
