PUPROSE STATEMENT
The Old Town Academy Charter School classroom teacher will meet all qualifications and behavior standards as set by Old Town Academy. In accordance with the performance expectations of OTA, all classroom teachers shall meet the following employment criteria: A valid teaching credential; demonstrated expertise to competently perform the functions of the job; professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance (student teaching experience or status as an intern); evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education; demonstrated ability to serve as a positive role model for youth. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under the supervision of the Principal, the Academy Teacher will:
• Support the vision and work of Old Town Academy.
• Work collaboratively to achieve the overall purposes of the school program.
• Conduct both in person and online learning.
• Create and keep current the class plan book or course syllabus (In our electronic management system, Canvas).
• Plan for and guide the learning process to help students achieve program objectives.
• Implement diagnostic and progress assessment measures and use data to differentiate and personalize instruction.
• Select and use effective personalized instructional methods and learning materials to meet OTA key skills.
• Maintain an innovative and highly successful school program conducive to learning.
• Establish a cooperative relationship with all assigned students.
• Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians.
• Call, email, meet with parents regularly regarding concerns about student progress and/or behavior on an on-going basis. Return calls/emails within 24 hours.
• Prepare a written or electronic progress report if a student is not mastering content at mid-term and follow the site-specific policy regarding mid-term progress reports.
• Prepare a written or electronic report card.
• Comply with attendance accounting requirements.
• Attend all PLC and staff meetings.
• Interface with the Principal regarding sensitive or controversial topics to be covered, outlining both the justification for using it and plans to sensitively manage the lesson with students and parents; Engage in on-going growth activities for self-improvement as a teacher.
• Complete all legal compliant trainings by the due date.
• Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must hold a valid California multiple subjects or single subject teaching credential. Experience with Springs Charter School or other charter schools preferred. Prior teaching experience is highly desirable.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
• If required to operate a vehicle in the performance of duties, the operator must possess an appropriate California Driver’s License and maintain possession of such license during the course of employment.
• Have an acceptable driving record; Must be insurable at standard rates by the school’s insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during employment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Language Skills
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret education periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, parents, students, teachers, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
Must possess the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Technology Skills
Employee must possess strong computer skills and be willing to learn Canvas, i-Ready, and other authorized school online programs to adequately support department requirements. S/he must be able to interface with our internal database. Must be literate in email, all aspects of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Chromebook, and must be able to navigate the Internet.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
