GROUNDSKEEPER I
DEFINITION
Performs a variety of general grounds maintenance and gardening work.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
-
May assist the District Groundskeeper personnel in the following:
-
Cultivates, waters and trims lawns, shrubs, trees, removes weeds and litter from school grounds;

Plants, fertilizes and sprays shrubs, trees and turf
-
Controls landscape pests
-
Safetly operates and maintains a variety of grounds/landscape equipment such as, but not limited to, hand tools, edgers, line trimmers, sprayers, sweepers, mowers and tractors

Assists in minor repair and installation of irrigation systems
-
Prepares athletic field and track for events
-
Load/unload trucks with materials or equipment
-
Assist in cleaning of gutters and keeping drainage systems clear
-
Performs related work as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (GED)
Experience:
- Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the completion of one year of groundskeeping
Other:
- Must possess a valid California Driver's License
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Tools, materials, equipment and standard practices of groundskeeping work
- Laws related to safe handling of chemicals used in groundskeeping
Ability to:
- Use various gardening and grounds maintenance tools and power equipment safely and efficiently
- Operate motorized equipment
- Use gardening hand tools
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
SUPERVISION
Works under the supervision of administrative personnel.
