FREMONT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description: Guidance Resource Counselor 1. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A. California Credential: Required- Pupil Personnel Services Credential or enrollment in a program leading to a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Desired- Valid General Secondary, Standard Secondary or Single Subject Credential B. Education: Required-BA/BS C. Experience: Desired- guidance background evidenced by training, experience, and interest. Experience working with young people. D. Personal Qualification: Creates a desirable model to students. The ability to Relate effectively to administrative teams, teachers, students, and parents. Understand and work effectively with people from different cultures. 2. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES To assist in the organization of guidance activities at each school site and to increase students’ capacity for self-understanding, relating to others, and ability to plan for the future. 3. MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY A. Students Students will receive guidance information: 1. That will assist them with academic and vocational planning, financial aid, community resources, and study skills. 2. Which is presented in such a manner that will encourage them to read and use the materials as reference information. Attractiveness, simplicity, and clarity of materials will be an emphasis. 3. That has been recommended by the Guidance Audit Committee, a part of the recommendation in the State’s “Eight Quality Indicators,” or material recommended by the Guidance Steering Committee. Guidance Resource Teacher Job Description blb 5/15/05 B. Program The Guidance Resource Teacher will: 1. Spend the majority of his/her time on the school site(s) developing and delivering guidance programs to students. 2. Work with the appropriate district personnel, district committees and site guidance committees to develop a district-wide guidance program which will use as its focus the community-based guidance audit report, the “Eight Quality Indicators” as recommended by the State, and other suitable guidance resources which will assist teachers, parents, and students in the District. 3. Organize and coordinate guidance activities specified by the Guidance Steering Committee and/or site administration while working cooperatively with the schools’ site guidance committees and other guidance staff members. 4. Work with site administrator to develop operational procedures in which guidance materials and information can be delivered to students by teachers without unnecessary interruption of the normal educational processes. 5. In service teachers so that the guidance information that is delivered to students is clear, concise, and timely. C. Other Areas 1. The Guidance Resource Teacher will demonstrate positive interpersonal relations by: a. Working cooperatively with staff toward the resolution of mutual concerns. b. Interacting positively with students, support staff, colleagues, parents, community, and private organizations. 2. The Guidance Resource Teacher will be responsible to support cocurricular activities. a. Maintaining his/her professional responsibility to support cocurricular activities. b. Participating in division functions, such as encouraging division related activities/organizations, completing inventories, maintaining records, and requisitioning supplies and materials. c. Performing other related duties as assigned. 3. The Guidance Resource Teacher will uphold the State laws, District policies/regulations, and local school regulations adopted to meet State and District policies.
