Job Summary
Main Function: The primary responsibility of the Dean of Academic Supports is to lead programs that increase equitable academic outcomes across subgroups within the school’s student population.
Requirements / Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree Minimum 3 years teaching experience (special education and/or language acquisition preferred) Credential in Special Education or Administration (preferred), enrollment in a credentialing program, or willingness to enroll in a program within a year of being hired Full English Learner Authorization or BCLAD credential (required); proven success with supporting English language learners (preferred) Ability to teach at middle school level: valid CA Single Subject Credential or Supplemental Authorization Experience developing staff through coaching, professional development, and/or management Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects with a variety of stakeholders Strong verbal and written communication skills Spanish or Korean Fluency (preferred) Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites Excellent ability to collect, organize, and analyze data to improve school programs and instructional practices Capacity to create additional school intervention programs within current academic programs History of producing dramatic, measurable student achievement gains Industriousness and enthusiasm: doing whatever it takes to ensure students’ success Humility and receptiveness to feedback
School Leadership Attend monthly BSS admin meetings as appropriate Attend ELD, IE, or Dean of Academic Supports cadre sessions and retreats as appropriate Co-facilitate weekly Teacher Leadership meetings to support Department Leads Attend all pertinent school leadership meetings Meet with Assistant Principal of Instruction or Principal weekly to debrief and connect on action items Provide feedback on teacher instructional plans specific to accommodations Coach/mentor teachers per the organization’s coaching initiative or as needed Prepare data to present at School Site Council meetings and ELAC Support grade-level counselors and grade level leads in MTSS systems implementation, SSPT meeting planning, and progress monitoring Collaborate with teachers and instructional assistants to implement practices to support students (especially students with IEPs and English Learners) Collaborate with School Leadership Team to inform progress towards school-wide goals focused on equitable outcomes Provide support on SSPT process Serve as administrator for summer school when needed
