Job Summary
The School of Arts and Enterprise Social Emotional Counselor The Social Emotional Counselor position will work closely with the counseling team to coordinate, facilitate, and implement mental health support services. The Counselor will provide emotional support and foster a safe and successful learning environment for students at the middle and high school levels. The primary focus will be on building students’ capacity for academic success and positive social and emotional well-being. QUALIFICATIONS • A valid CDE, school-based credential in one of the following areas: school counseling and/or school social work • Secondary (middle and high school) experience preferred • Strong facilitation, coaching, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills • Experience in the use of technology • Demonstrated leadership skills • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of diversity • Knowledge of and experience with mediation and conflict resolution • Ability to promote and follow school policies and procedures. • A high level of organizational skills and initiative • Strong communication skills • Experience and training in mental health support within a learning or school environment RESPONSIBILITIES: The Social Emotional Counselor position will work closely with the building administrative team to do the following: • Provide individual mental health counseling • Address bullying/harassment • Provide education (prevention and awareness via classes/presentation on topics such as anger/stress management, cyber safety, etc.) • Develop youth leadership and empowerment skills • Facilitate restorative justice and conflict resolution • Provide crisis assistance (i.e. family death) • Provide truancy intervention • Provide mental health resources • Liaison to/for commun
