DEFINITION

Under general supervision, to assist in performing a variety of functions pertaining to studenthealth appraisal; to assist in the care of ill or injured students; to administer routine first aid andemergency treatment; and to do other related work as required.ESSENTIAL

DUTIES• Assists with the preparation of a variety of examinations pertaining to the health appraisal ofstudents, including physical, vision, and hearing examinations.• Records health appraisal history and the results of health appraisal examinations.• Assists in typing and distributing reports concerning the findings of health appraisals and inhealth appraisal follow-up activities.• Renders first aid treatment to injured and ill students.• Sterilizes, disinfects, and bandages minor cuts, abrasions, and burns.• Observes pupils for signs of shock and other emergency situations, and takes appropriateremedial action following a predetermined procedure.• Takes and records temperatures of ill students, and reports the results to health service oradministrative personnel as appropriate.• Provides a quiet, comfortable, and calming atmosphere for ill and injured pupils.• Performs routine evaluations of student illness and injury situations, and determines the need foremergency, supervisory, or administrative assistance.• May give medication prescribed specifically for students by medical authority, following aclosely controlled procedure.• Contacts parents or other responsible persons regarding ill or injured students.• May assist in cleaning and changing of ill students and physically involved students, and in thecleaning and disinfecting of the student health area.• Maintains a variety of student records pertaining to the health office activities.?May perform follow up health and welfare functions for students.?Works collaboratively with local community organizations and agencies to provide additionalassistance regarding health and welfare needs.? Attends trainings and inservices that are job related.? Implements the state health mandates that pertain to schools.? May comprise, distribute, and restock first aide kits for the classrooms.? Assists with the coverage of the front office.?Performs clerical duties when time permits.? Performs related work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONA high school diploma or equivalent and any combination of experience and training that wouldlikely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain therequired knowledge and skill would be:Experience:• One year of paid experience performing a variety of general office and clerical work, preferablyin a student health facility.Education:• High school diploma or equivalent, including or supplemented by coursework in typing, recordmanagement, and general office practices;• Pass District proficiency exam

Certificate Requirement - Possession of a current First Aid Certificate issued by the AmericanRed Cross, which includes CPR training
