The ideal after school activity leader believes in, and is passionate about the mission and commitments of Valiente College Prep and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture and collaboration to ensure student success. They are able to embody, advocate, and operationalize the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the school. Under the direction of the site coordinator they will supervise campus activities to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors in non-classroom activities; enforce and assure student compliance with school rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Job Description: After School Program Leader


Valiente College Prep is a new public charter school in Southeast Los Angeles, whose mission is to educate students in grades 4-8 to lead lives of scholarship and integrity. The school launched in Fall 2015 with 90 students in grades 4-5, and plans to expand to serve over 500 students in grades 4-8 in 2020. As a 501c3 non-profit public charter school, Valiente College Prep is guided by its mission and a deep commitment to improving lives of underserved children through education.


The After School Program Leader will:

  • Embody, advocate, and operationalize the mission, vision, and strategic direction of Valiente College Preparatory

  • Work directly with classes of students (approx 20-25)

  • Act as a positive role model

  • Provide homework assistance, tutoring, academic enrichment, and physical activity using curriculum provided by the school

  • Advocate on behalf of the students, families, and faculty in a way that is consistent with the mission of the school

  • Establish authority and provide a nurturing learning environment for students

  • Provide a safe learning environment

  • Communicate articulately and professionally with students, parents, and staff

  • Participate in occasional staff development activities

  • Always arrive on time

  • Provide the essential data, relevant reports, and information necessary to monitor data about student achievement (those who attend the After School Program)


Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of the school

  • Motivational and energetic leader who is committed to excellence

  • Unwavering in pursuit of excellence even in the face of difficult opposition and challenges

  • Experience working with children (Grades 4-8 preferred)

  • Must have negative TB results

  • Provide at least 3 Professional References

  • Preferred: Completion of 48 college units

  • Salary: $16.00-$20.00 per hour depending upon experience, approximately 22.5 hours per week (Work times approximately 2:00-6:30pm daily)

 

Requirements / Qualifications

-Must pass a DOJ background check -Must have negative TB results. -Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification, American Red Cross preferred -High School Diploma Preferred: -Education Strongly Desired (but not required): Completed 2 years of college coursework, possess an AA degree, and/or have passed the CBEST; Bachelor's Degree -Bilingual (oral & written) Spanish/English -Basic methods of individual and group supervision. -Basic interests, attitudes, behaviors, and emotional development of adolescents. -Strong commitment to the mission and vision of the school. -Must possess organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. -Strong administrative and organizational skills. -High level of communication skills, both written and oral. -Strong initiative and ability to solve problems. -Ability to demonstrate skills in the development of academic activities. -Unwavering in pursuit of excellence even in the face of difficult opposition and challenges.
