About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) provides access to quality education in a regional setting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students, grade six through twelve. OCDE's D/HH Program is located within the Irvine Unified School District at Venado Middle School and University High School. The current vacancy will be based out of Venado Middle School located at 4 Deerfield Ave, Irvine, CA 92604. We are currently recruiting for a professional educator to serve as a Teacher for our D/HH Program. Our D/HH Program utilizes a total communication approach which employs American Sign Language (ASL) as the primary signing system with the support of Conceptual Accurate Signed English (CASE). This professional will provide instruction in a special day class setting on a mainstream campus serving D/HH students at the intermediate level.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Recent experience working in a public school setting with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. • Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university. • Must be fluent in ASL. Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements: • Possession and maintenance of a valid California teaching credential authorizing instruction to deaf and hard of hearing students. • Meet the Basic Skills Requirement through one of the methods listed on Form CL-667 on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website - www.cta.ca.gov • NCLB: Meet NCLB highly qualified compliance requirements in the core academic subjects assigned to teach. New hire teachers must agree to establish highly qualified compliance within the first year of employment if not compliant at time of hire. • English Learner (EL) Authorization: All new teachers hired under a preliminary or Clear credential must possess an authorization to provide instruction for English Language Development (ELD) and Specially Designed Academic Instruction Delivered in English (SDAIE) to English learners. Appropriate credentials include Education Specialist Instructional Credential with English Learner authorization; CLAD (cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development) or BCLAD (Bilingual Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development) authorizations; or Certificate of Completion of Staff Development (AB2913/SB395 training).
