Job Summary
Under general supervision of an assigned supervisor provides oral and written translation services from English to a designated second language and vice versa at official District meetings, workshops, conferences, or special events. The job class of Translator prepares District-wide translations of technical, educational and general material for use by District departmental and school site personnel, parents and the public in a designated secondary language. Incumbents also provide simultaneous interpretations at a wide variety of District and school site meetings, conferences, and workshops. Primary responsibilities are: • Provide translation services from English to a designated second language and vice versa, during official District meetings, workshops, conferences and special events, including but not limited to: Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team meetings, educational assessment meetings and interviews, and due process hearings; take notes and prepare minutes following meetings as necessary; maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information; interpret previously taped conversations of meetings as needed. • Provides interpretation and translation of technical terminology used by the psychologist, speech therapist, school nurse and other District personnel; provide explanations to facilitate communications, promote understanding and develop rapport with Spanish speaking parents. • Translates documents and other material, including technical subject matters and policies, procedures, instructions, progress reports, and reports cards, IEP documents from one language to another. Reads and rewrites material in specified language or languages, following established rules pertaining to factors such as word meaning, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. • Communicates with a variety of District administrators, specialists, faculty, and other staff to provide interpretation and translation as needed.

Requires two years of college that includes a minimum of 16 credit hours of English and/or the designated language sought by the District, and two years of experience involving simultaneous and consecutive interpretation and translation of written documents and forms from one language into another.
