PHYSICAL THERAPIST
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent Support Services, and as a member of the educational team, provides assessment and identification to student performance needs in the areas of motor development and orthopedic disability. In consultation with parents and teachers, develops goals and objectives for consideration in the individual education program (IEP), develops individual physical therapy intervention plans, and maintains appropriate documentation and reports.
REPRESNTATIVE DUTIES:
Plan and implement physical therapy services within the educational area. Monitor and adjust individual programs as needed. E
Assess students using a variety of methods and tools; recommends appropriate therapy to assist students in meeting their educational goals. E
Consult with the multidisciplinary education team, medical team, outside agencies and parent for the purpose of extending therapeutic activities to the classroom and home, attend medical clinics, and provide information. E
Prepares evaluations, maintains records and prepare reports concerning individual students; review and interpret educational and medical reports as needed. E
Provide plans and schedules to provide effective services to referred students. E
Monitor, evaluate, and maintain equipment needs; maintain safety standards, order, design, and fabricate appropriate modification to support student ability to access the regular education curriculum. E
Visit student’s classroom, playground, and home to promote generalization of physical therapy services in the natural environment. E
Remain current concerning advances in physical therapy and practice, attend seminars, workshops, and conferences. E
Perform related duties assigned. E
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Principles and techniques of physical therapy.
Use a variety of modern methods, techniques, and physical therapy practices with children.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, community agencies, and District personnel.
Prepare written evaluations and review medical reports.
Use and care for the materials, supplies, and equipment employed in performing services as a Physical Therapist.
Travel to multiple sites/locations.
Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Prioritize and schedule work, meeting schedules, and time lines.
Observe health and safety regulations.
ABILITY TO:
Plan, organize, and conduct a physical therapy program for neuromuscular and/or orthopedically involved children.
Respond to questions, inquiries, and complaints from parents, students, teachers, and representatives from other school districts.
Explain process and procedures as they apply to the physical therapy program.
Plan and perform physical therapy treatments.
Make accurate assessments of the developmental status and educational needs of young children.
Determine and evaluate treatment.
Establish processes and procedures as they apply to the physical therapy programs.
Make oral presentations to large and small groups.
Prepare reports and keep case records.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from a physical therapy program accredited by the American Medical Association.
California license in Physical Therapy.
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificates required.
Valid California driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT:
Typical school environment.
Travel to off-site locations to perform portions of duties and responsibilities.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
