Basic Function:

Under the general direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Education Services, plans, coordinates, and evaluates the operation of all site-based, early education programs, and programs for school-age programs, serves as a liaison to District advisory groups, trains staff members, ensures compliance at all sites of the District’s program goals and performs other duties directly related to this job description.

Representative Duties:

(All duties and tasks are essential to this position)

• Plan, organize, control and direct the operations, programs and related early child development services to prospective students within the district.
• Develops program’s budget and is responsible for maintaining grant funded integrity.
• Develop program curriculum in coordination with District goals for parent/child early literacy activities.
• Serves as liaison to District advisory group(s) and interprets necessary policies and procedures.
• Determines staff work schedules, and trains site staff.
• Designs and supports program activities, and actively promotes early child development within the community.
• Solicits financial support.
• Supervises and evaluates teachers and support staff.
• Monitors program compliance obligations, evaluates the program and prepares necessary reports for the Superintendent.
• Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
• Participates in emergency response activities as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids; ability to hear and understand speech

at normal levels; ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.

• Knowledge/experience with varying funding streams and reporting procedures.
• Knowledge/experience with QRIS (Quality Rating and Improvement Systems).
• Knowledge/experience with use of the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP).
• Ability to use a computer to create documents, communicate with staff, and search the

Internet.

• Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
• Knowledge of general concepts of child growth and development and theory/practice of

      Child Development.

• Knowledge of basic record keeping and office management practices.
• Knowledge of the operation/management of before school/after school enrichment

programs.

• Knowledge of the principles of training and supervision.
• Ability to design, develop, deliver and evaluate a program for early education and enrich-

ment programs for students, and to train and direct staff.

• Ability to establish and maintain necessary financial and program records.
• Ability to establish, maintain and ensure a neat, orderly and safe school environment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in

            the course of work.

• Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.

Working Conditions

• Manual dexterity and physical condition necessary to maintain a rigorous work schedule.
• Light to moderate physical effort, standing and/or walking for extended periods of time.
• District Office and travel between school sites.

Environmental Conditions

• Primarily indoor office, some indoor/outdoor school campus environment.
• Temperature – normal.

Contacts

• Daily contact with students, parents, preschool and District staff.
• Occasional contact with community members and outside agency personnel.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Child Development Program Director Permit issued by the State of California

Permit may be obtained through four different options.

Holds a Bachelor’s degree including 24 ECE/CD units, plus 6 administration units, plus 2 adult supervision units and one year of supervisory experience. Or

Holds an Administrative Services Credential with 12 units of ECE/CD, 3 units supervised field experience in ECE/CD. Or

Holds a Valid California Teaching Credential with 12 units of ECE/CD, plus 3 units supervised field experience in ECE/CD setting, plus 6 units administration Or

Holds a Master’s Degree in ECE/CD or Child/Human Development.

• Hold a Bachelor degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development or closely related field.
• Valid California driver’s license.
• First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
