Join our small multi-disciplinary team of educators and truly make a difference in the lives of your students today. Beacon School is a special education school with a therapeutic focus. We provide specialized academic instruction and related services to students in grades 6 through 12. Teachers working at Beacon School benefit from our small class sizes (up to 12 students), highly trained instructional assistants (behavior coaches) and integrated mental health clinical staff (therapists in the classrooms). Teachers at Beacon School instruct students in all core subjects at their assigned grade level while modifying and/or accommodating general education curriculum to meet the student’s individual needs per their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Beacon teachers are given extensive training and support with the IEP process and work in collaboration with families with children with cognitive, emotional and/or physical disabilities. The teaching position requires a valid California teaching credential/intern permit in the area of Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe Education Instruction and any necessary authorization. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a school setting with students who have emotional challenges and special needs. Beacon School teachers develop an IEP for each student, attend the IEP team meeting and review the IEP with the student's parents, school administrators and community-based support staff. Teachers are expected to identify students’ specific needs through assessment and collaborate with clinical staff to discuss individual student needs and strengths, goals and progress. Teachers prepare materials and the classroom for instructional activities and implement various teaching methods to promote learning, including intensive individualized instruction, project-based learning and small-group instruction.
