JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST(Carpenter, Electrician, Painter, Plumber)

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Perform a variety of maintenance work in the alteration, repairand new construction of equipment and structures, performingskilled/journey level work in their particular area(s) ofexpertise.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs work based on written plans, layouts, orblueprints.

2. Follows general safety and hazardous materials procedures.

3. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and materials.

4. Operates machinery and equipment appropriate to jobspecialty area.

5. Estimates scope of work, materials, and costs for anassigned project and arranges for the materials to completethe job. Designs and plans work as appropriate.

6. May install and repair locks, and may do welding.

7. Diagnoses and assesses problems.

8. Operates district vehicles.

9. Performs related duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB SPECIALTY AREAS

Carpenter

1. Alters, repairs, and maintains a variety of articles andwood structures.

2. Performs mill and cabinet work as necessary.

3. Installs and repairs floors and roofs, doors, windows, etc.

4. Does concrete work.

5. Maintains and operates a variety of woodworking machineryand equipment.

Electrician/HVAC

1. Installs, maintains and repairs a variety of electricalfacilities, fixtures, and equipment.

2. Is responsible for heating, ventilation, air conditioning,and refrigeration systems. Inspects, cleans and adjustsequipment.

Painter

1. Uses appropriate equipment and materials in applying paint,varnish, or other protective/decorative finishes to varioussurfaces.

2. Prepares surfaces for paint or other finishes.

3. Does glazing.

Plumber

1. Installs water, sewer, and gas lines, drainage systems andpumps.

2. Repairs, replaces, installs and tests plumbing systems, setsfixtures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:The use of job related standard methods, materials, andequipment; methods and practices followed in the maintenance oftools, machinery and equipment appropriate to the specialty.

Ability to:

Demonstrate journey level skill in the appropriate specialty;estimate scope and cost of work; communicate effectively andmaintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in thecourse of work; follows general safety and hazardous materialsprocedures; understand, implement, and give oral and writtendirections in English.

Experience:

Completion of apprenticeship in one of the skilled maintenancetrades and/or four years of journey level experience in a skilledmaintenance trade.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.  Additional training indesignated trade.

License:

Valid California Drivers License

Supervision:

Under minimal supervision, reports to the Director of Maintenance. Provides direction and technical assistance to Maintenance Workers.

The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxicor caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
