Requirements / Qualifications

Comments and Other Information
The Assistant Director provides leadership and supervision for a top-rated, transdisciplinary assessment team who provides assessment services to students receiving special education services, in public education programs in any of 11 counties throughout Southern California. Team members also provide consultation and training services to local education agencies (LEAs) in the Center’s catchment area. The Assistant Director serves as the on-site administrator in the absence of the Director.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervises the assessment and training staff consisting of education specialists, speech-language pathologists, school and clinical psychologists, education specialists, and developmental/behavioral pediatricians.
• Provides assistance with assessment planning and direction throughout the assessment process.
• Interacts with parents during the assessment process to ensure they understand assessment measures and student performance.
• Conducts ongoing assessment program observations, providing direct clinical and programmatic supervision and analyzes and evaluates staffing patterns and assignments and makes recommendations for staffing needs.
• Coordinates the orientation/development of new team members.
• With the Director, provides quality control of the written diagnostic reports through in-depth review, to ensure that reports are organized and student specific; provides feedback to staff, as needed.
• Participates as a member of the DC Tri-Center Management Team.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
• California Administrative Services Credential
• Knowledge and experience in standardized and developmental assessment of students with a range of disabilities
• Editing experience for technical reports
• Experience in leading and building teams
• Mediation and conflict resolution skills
BENEFITS
• Annual Salary range: $97,260 – $132,348 for 219 days; Monthly: $8,105 – $11,029 includes $400.00 Recruitment and Retention pay per month*
*Effective July 1, 2020, this classification is subject to the Personnel Leave Program 2020 (PLP 2020) per month. This will result in a 9.23% reduction in pay for 24 months, until June 30, 2022. The salary listed above does not reflect the 9.23% pay reduction.

The Assistant Director position at the Diagnostic Center, Southern California works 219 days in the academic year. Currently, this position is able to telework. However, once the Diagnostic Centers reopen for full assessment services, staff may be required to return to the Center. This is a Non-Tenured Full-Time position.
