About the Employer

Vistamar School is a warm and welcoming college preparatory, co-educational, independent day school that serves a diverse population of approximately 260 students, grades 9-12. Roughly 35% of our students participate in our generous Moderated Tuition program (financial aid), and approximately 50% of our students self-identify as students of color. We seek to attract and retain faculty and staff who bring diversity of thought and culture to our school community, and who are committed to providing an inclusive environment for the respectful exchange of multiple perspectives. Vistamar School is a community of over 60 full-time employees and is seeking a Student Services Associate to join our team. Vistamar School is located in the South Bay at the cross- section of El Segundo, Redondo Beach, and Hawthorne. The school is well-served by public transportation, including a Metro rail station and nearby freeway interchanges. Compensation and benefits package is competitive with other Los Angeles area independent schools.

Job Summary

Job Summary

This is an essential full-time, exempt position. Together with the Admissions Team, the Assistant Director of Admissions (ADA) is responsible for the development and execution of the School’s recruitment, admissions, and enrollment processes. Vistamar School functions in a competitive environment, which requires the Admissions team to maintain a highly visible profile and responsive, client-centered communications. The ADA is a first point of contact for many families, and thus plays a significant role in shaping the first impressions and ongoing experiences of families throughout the admissions process. Working closely with the Director, the ADA provides day-to-day support for the admissions and marketing programs, and interacts with a variety of constituents including volunteers, students, applicant families, faculty and staff, sending schools, and other referring organizations. The ADA serves as the Director’s deputy and is often responsible for leading the Admissions Office in the Director’s absence. Since this position is a forward-facing position, a positive, flexible and upbeat attitude is essential.

Requirements / Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a high level of computer literacy, including mastery of standard applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs and databases. This person will have demonstrated the ability to both manage and utilize admissions data such that it can influence the decisions regarding policy and practice within the department. They will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, problem-solving and writing skills. They will have demonstrated the ability to establish and maintain the organization of complex information and to keep track of deadlines, and will have been a model for integrity and mature judgment, particularly in matters of confidentiality. They should be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of, and commitment to, embracing and serving a diverse community of students, families and colleagues from many ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Because of the significant number of families in our community who speak Spanish at home, proficiency/fluency in Spanish is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required. The candidate must possess a valid California driver’s license. Due to the cyclical nature of the position, the incumbent should expect to work some evenings and weekends during the school year, especially during the fall. As with all positions at Vistamar, we seek an individual who takes initiative and demonstrates a strong desire to grow professionally. We need a genuine colleague for this important position – someone who is thoughtful, energetic and passionate and an all-around "school person" who wants to participate in and contribute to our vibrant community. An affinity for high school students, flexibility, a sense of humor, and a willingness to embrace the mission of Vistamar School is essential.
