Job Summary
Perform functional hearing evaluations of students for Initial and Triennial IEP’s and prepare reports of results Manage cases, i.e., schedule/organize IEP meetings, write IEP’s, lead IEP meetings for students on itinerant teacher’s caseload Recommend and implement accommodations and modifications for curriculum and assessment, as appropriate for individual students Communicate regularly with parents, classroom teachers, principals and case managers (when someone other than you has that lattermost role), regarding student needs and goal progress Maintain proper documentation, using the SEIS system Develop and maintain caseload schedule Teach students primarily in a 1 on 1 setting Travel to schools where students are attending, establish a rapport with administrative/ clerical staff there, and obtain a meeting place within which to work with student Develop and implement appropriate IEP’s for eligible deaf/hard of hearing students Provide information and recommendations to general education teachers/IA’s re: best practice for working with a student with hearing loss in the classroom Support/facilitate student learning through consultation with general education teachers, parents and students Use appropriate testing materials to evaluate students’ hearing loss levels and goal progress Facilitate hearing aid, FM system and other assistive listening device use, maintenance, repair and replacement\ Collaborate and work effectively as a team member with other specialists Prepare/utilize materials and equipment to effectively meet individual student learning needs Develop and implement alternative teaching strategies for students with additional learning needs Regularly attend special education staff meetings at BHS for professional development, information/idea sharing Remain knowledgeable about state and federal special education requirements Obtain updated audiological reports from s
