BACKGROUND: The Garden Grove Unified School District, a nationally recognized urban district, holds extremely high expectations for our students and the adults who serve them. We are passionate about preparing our culturally and linguistically diverse students for college success and beyond. We are searching for a School Social Worker who shares our common mission, to serve as a member of our collaborative K-12 team. A School Social Worker will work under the supervision of the Director of Student Services. Their primary responsibilities will be to carry out the duties as related to the function and role of a School Social Worker such as, but not limited to, providing schools with support for students’ social-emotional wellbeing by providing prevention, intervention (counseling) and case management services to increase learning outcomes. School social workers will also supervise a cadre of interns. Such a leader is one who: BELIEVES: • All students can succeed and that their backgrounds, cultures and language are teaching and learning assets • Students, parents and communities are partners in our educational mission • In our shared values, beliefs, and attitudes that inspire others to higher levels of performance POSSESS: • Ability to make others feel valued, appreciated and respected • Ability to earn the trust and respect of those being served • Ability to maintain the professional will and moral imperative to work with staff and parents to realize their hopes for their children’s success • Ability to identify with the hopes and dreams of parents for their children in the communities being served • Understanding of the realities of parents and communities, including strengths and challenges and a willingness to constantly seek opportunities to incorporate them into school and district leader practices • Ability to ensure fairness and equity in district policies and practices and in their application • Courage to make difficult decisions based on what is in the best interests of children • Courage to deliver tough messages and the ability to do so with compassion • Commitment to the District Mission, Goals and Vision IS PREPARED TO: • Supervise interns/associates that work directly with students, families and school staff • Maintain a caseload of counseling students, as needed • Work closely with school sites to promote wellness prevention, intervention and case management services • Ensure students and families are referred for and engage with appropriate support services • Participate in Student Study Team, 504 and IEP meetings to develop interventions and supports for students • Consult with teachers, parents, and administrators regarding students’ area(s) of concern • Collect and report to the Office of Student Services monthly data related to interventions • Work closely with schools to provide support for child welfare and attendance • Demonstrate the understanding and empathy necessary in working with students and their families The Garden Grove Unified School District prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation and bullying in educational programs, activities or employment on the basis of actual or perceived ancestry, age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, parental, pregnancy, family, or marital status or association with a person or a group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.
