PROGRAM SUMMARY Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. (Plaza) is a comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on school readiness for children zero to five years of age. Developmentally appropriate services are provided for children from low income families, zero to five years of age. Plaza de la Raza currently serves over 1,000 children and their families. SUMMARY OF DUTIES The Teacher position for the Early Head Start Program promotes educational, social, physical and intellectual growth by teaching Early Head Start students; plans group and individual lesson plans, organizes activities, monitors individual student progress, conducts student observations; completes daily educational and attendance records; conducts parent/teacher conferences; and monitors individual student progress. The Teacher is responsible for the planning and implementation of a curriculum in the classroom that meets the Head Start Program requirements in preparation for primary school in preschool, day care center or other child development facility.

Requirements / Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A. Education A Bachelor degree from an accredited four-year college or university in early childhood education, child development, or related field; and must have six (6) semester units in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development is required. If at the time of employment, candidate only has three (3) of the six (6) infant and toddler units, the remaining three (3) units are to be completed within the first year of employment as it will be indicated in an educational plan upon employment. In addition, a valid/current California Child Development Teacher Permit is also required. B. Experience Two (2) years of experience in a classroom setting or combination of two (2) years of experience in both classroom and group settings with young children under the age of five (5), is required. Master’s degree may be substituted in lieu of experience.
