Jurupa Unified School District SPRINKLER TECHNICIAN DEFINITION Under general supervision, to install, maintain and repair lawn sprinkler systems; to perform other pipe fitting and plumbing activities as directed; and to do related work as required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS · Installs, repairs and replaces lawn sprinkler systems according to blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions. · Installs, maintains and repairs automatically operated sprinkler controls, anti-siphon devices, sprinkler heads, valves and lines. · Inspects and adjusts sprinkler controllers for correct time and duration of operation. · Maintains sprinkler heads by cutting grass around heads and adjusting height of heads. · Maintains and repairs wiring and electrical switches. · Repairs and replaces pumps. · Maintains an adequate supply of repair equipment and materials. · Drives a service vehicle in performance of duties. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS · Performs other related job duties as assigned. LICENSE REQUIRED Possession of a valid, appropriate California Driver’s License. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Various aspects of pipe fitting as they apply to sprinkler installations; Sizes and specifications of pipes and fittings for proper volumes and pressures; Methods and materials used in the installation, maintenance and repair of automatic sprinkler systems including knowledge of the various kinds of controllers, valves and heads. Ability to: Operate tools and equipment used in installation, repair and maintenance of automatic sprinkler systems; Follow oral and written instructions; Work with minimum of supervision; Remain flexible despite a heavy work load and frequent duty changes; Work safely; Establish and maintain good working relationships with others; Read and understand handwritten or typed documents, instructions, the display screen of various equipment and machines, and blueprints and schematics; Communicate effectively; Stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk; Climb slopes, stairs, steps and ladders; Personnel Services over SPRINKLER TECHNICIAN Ability to (continued): Lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects; Perform strenuous manual labor for up to 8 hours; Accomplish tasks in restricted spaces in a safe and effective manner; Accomplish tasks with chemical agents in a safe and effective manner; Work around trees, plants, shrubs, flowers, dust, soil and turf in a safe and effective manner; Demonstrate manual dexterity, and steadiness and stability of hand movement necessary to perform fine maintenance procedures in a safe and effective manner; Operate both manual and power hand tools in a safe and effective manner; Operate a variety of industrial or motor vehicles, equipment and tools associated with grounds keepings, gardening and custodial trades in a safe and effective manner; Maintain steady, regular attendance. Experience: Two years of groundkeeping or construction experience including experience in the installation and repair of automatic sprinkler systems. Education: Completion of the eighth grade.
