The ideal candidate will share Reedley College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of the 2019-2020 academic year, we currently enroll over 19,000 students in which 74% identify as Latinx, 5% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 2% as Black/African American, 15% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% as multiracial. Reedley College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

 

Reporting to the Dean of Student Success and Achievement, the Counselor/Coordinator, Student Success will play a significant role within the Guided Pathways framework and will be a key faculty member in bridging Student Services and Instruction under a student-centered model.

 

This position will provide supplemental counseling support through 20% counseling duties, allowing for additional counseling coverage during peak times while allowing 80% of the position time to be focused on responsibility for the ongoing coordination that will support Starfish needs and student success efforts throughout the remainder of the year. The counselor will:

 

• Coordinate services and outreach for Adult Education and Alternative Education and serve as primary point of contact for those areas;

 

• Coordinate support services for the Dinuba Center and work collaboratively with K-12 partners, student services, and instruction in providing optimal student learning experience at our new satellite center;

 

• Collaborate with the Dual Enrollment team to provide link between campus services and resources at our high school locations;

 

• Collaborate with Counseling and College Relations in outreach and registration events and activities; serve as a link between these departments as well as the divisions of Student Services and Instruction to improve the effectiveness of outreach activities, research and advocate for necessary updates, and bridge gaps of student access in particular for our students from under-represented groups;

 

• Lead campus efforts with cross functional groups to plan, design, test, and implement student success systems and technology planning, updates, and functionality (Starfish);

 

• Develop and deliver college wide training and materials on the ideal use of relevant student success software, applications and hardware;

 

• Collaborate with the College Office of Research & Evaluation to create dashboards and reports to facilitate access to data within the platform for a variety of end users and stakeholders;

 

• Provide individualized, comprehensive counseling and support resources for students;

 

• Assist students with connecting to campus resources in alignment with campus Guided Pathways framework to support students with career exploration, career counseling, employment opportunity networking and transfer planning in addition to special program supports;

 

• Collaborate with others to monitor and track students' academic performance and progress towards academic objectives to ensure effective use of support services and successful attainment of program outcomes;

 

• Collaborate with others to identify and implement interventions designed to meet the needs of students and increase equitable engagement of students across the campus;

 

• Participate in curriculum development for counseling-related courses;

 

• Participate in the development & assessment of course and program Learning Outcomes to improve student learning;

 

• Participate in professional development activities, program development and review, student activities, and faculty committees;

 

• Utilize technology systems related to completion of counseling duties, documentation and reporting;

 

• Serving on college-wide committees and attending faculty meetings, as necessary to support and enrich college programs and activities, and participating in student success initiatives; and

 

• Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

 

• A master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling;

 

OR

 

• A valid California Community College Credential;

 

OR

 

• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

 

(NOTE: If the degrees posted on your transcript(s) do not match EXACTLY as stated above, you MUST petition for equivalency. A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

 

Desirable Qualifications:

 

• Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;

 

• Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;

 

• Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;

 

• Experience working with a diverse student population;

 

• Demonstrated cross-cultural experience;

 

• Experience providing academic, career, transfer, and personal counseling at a community college;

 

• Experience in developing Student Education Plans (SEPs) for community college students;

 

• Experience developing and implementing programs and services associated with community college transfer centers, career centers and general counseling services;

 

• Knowledge of California Community College matriculation process;

 

• Knowledge of ASSIST and other online Transfer/Counseling and articulation resources;

 

• Proficiency and currency with personality and career assessment tools and related software applications, their administration and interpretation;

 

• Experience addressing educational barriers of low-socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff;

 

• Experience with technology pertaining to student data collection within student services;

 

• Experience participating in outreach and matriculation activities on/off campus;

 

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;

 

• Related work and professional experience;

 

• Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and

 

• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

 

Conditions of Employment:

 

191 duty days per year. Duty days will be prorated based on start of assignment

 

Salary and Benefits:

 

Starting salary is $62,318- $93,819 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,160 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

 

Selection Procedure:

 

Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

 

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

 

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews.

 

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

Known as “The World’s Fruit Basket,” Reedley is in one of the richest agricultural regions of the world. Reedley College was established in May 1926 as Reedley Junior College and has affected many lives since then.
