This position is a career 83% appointment working under K-12 school academic calendar year. Applies professional knowledge to a narrow range of student disability issues, such as access, proctoring, or note-taking. Performs independently within this narrow range. Receives guidance from disability services manager on more complex issues. Under general supervision, the Learning Specialist Aide prepares, monitors, and delivers curriculum to individuals and groups of students with learning differences, and related work as assigned. It is essential that individuals who occupy this position be able to adapt to the particular educational needs of the student(s). The Learning Specialist Aide works directly with students according to a highly structured plan. The behavioral and instructional components of the program are often individualized and require precise adherence. The Learning Specialist Aide develops new material and programs and has responsibility for aiding students in the development and maintenance of such varied learning skills as reading, writing, study, and test-taking techniques. Incumbents in these positions should possess a broad knowledge of what constitutes competent and creative skill usage at various academic levels and must be proficient at guiding students of diverse educational backgrounds to levels of skill development consistent with standards of satisfactory performance. Overtime may be required.
