Job Summary
Santa Barbara Middle School is looking for a history teacher to join our amazing 8th grade team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate teaching professional to collaborate with and learn from experienced teachers. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in history or a related field and have a current history single subject credential or a multiple subject credential. A master’s degree is preferred. Candidates should have experience teaching history, with experience in TCI’s History Alive! Curriculum preferred, or a willingness to learn, attend professional development workshops and immerse themselves in hands-on learning that is literacy based and promotes social action and civic engagement. Successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to create developmentally appropriate curricula, establish a supportive and engaging classroom environment, differentiate to meet the needs of all students and work collaboratively with colleagues and parents/guardians. All teachers are expected to participate in weekly staff/faculty meetings, weekly grade level meetings, professional development and in-service, and community events. Candidates will also take part in teaching electives and will actively participate in our outdoor education program. This includes, and is not limited to, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, and camping. Additionally, we seek a candidate who is passionate about working with young people. Candidates should support the mission of SBMS and be eager to join a community where collaboration is valued and where openness to growth is the norm. Candidates should model a growth mindset, maintain a sense of humor, and demonstrate a warm personality.
