Requirements / Qualifications

Position available June 2019 San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA), a PK-12 school in the Carmel Valley community of San Diego, is seeking applications for a highly engaged, community-oriented, and hands-on Director of Security & Safety (DSS) to ensure a safe, secure environment for its community. Reporting to the school's COO/CFO, and supported by a Security Advisory Committee, the DSS designs and implements a comprehensive school security and safety program, with the highest priority and objective being the protection of human life. SDJA believes that all students, parents and employees have a role in ensuring the security of the community. Each member of the SDJA community should assume personal responsibility for creating an environment free from physical and/or sexual violence, hate speech, harassment, vandalism, theft and other policy violations. The security of the school requires the preservation of a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in which all may advocate for their own rights, as well as those of others, and where differing views are included and embraced. Within this pluralistic environment, the DSS leads the community in educating, influencing and creating a strong culture of awareness and safety. The DSS continuously demonstrates a positive attitude toward students, employees and parents, engaging in ways that promote community building and learning. The ideal candidate will be both innovative and collaborative, having the ability to develop strong internal and external working relationships, including ones with a multitude of on-campus community partners (synagogues and other Jewish organizations) toward achieving the highest standard of security and safety across the campus at all times.
